Medical Training

Medical training services in Israel are world class and state of the art. By the time the state of Israel was established, it already had a solid healthcare infrastructure, but for the first few years of statehood, Israeli health services sometimes struggled to address the needs of the hundreds of thousands of refugees from Arab countries and post-World War II Europe. This resulted in Israel developing a long range plan of health education and preventive medicine.

Israel is served by a network of hospitals, outpatient clinics, rehabilitation services, and clinics for preventive medicine. Medical care in Israel is outstanding and includes such advanced options as in vitro fertilization, neurosurgery, MRI scans, bone marrow and organ transplants. The country has approximately 32,000 physicians on staff at hospitals and neighborhood clinics as well as in private practices. Israel has some 54,000 nurses, most of whom are RNs, with the rest qualified as licensed practical nurses.

Training for physicians and nurses as well as medical assistant training takes place at four medical schools, 15 nursing schools, and two schools each for dentistry and pharmacology. Medical training services in Israel also include training for physical and occupational therapists, radiological technicians, laboratory technicians, and nutritionists.

Israel has state of the art emergency medical services, with a network of first aid stations, public ambulances, and mobile intensive care units. Medical assistant training equips this network with coordinators who are assisted by 10,000 volunteers serving at over 100 stations throughout Israel.
